Life has definitely cranked down into the slow lane for the last few days. That includes WiFi speeds, so uploading photos for any posts will be interesting, if not impossible. We’ll see!
Our little apartment, attached to a much bigger house, is about five miles away from Giverny and Monet’s famous garden. It is perched above a valley and seems to be visited by the most beautiful rainbow each evening around seven. Most curious. For three nights in a row the rainbow arrived. By the third occasion the hairs on the back of my neck were standing on end. Since then the skies have remained unadorned but who knows tonight.
I shouldn’t have worried about missing my lilac as the gardens surrounding us are full of lilac trees. On the first day the owner brought me a huge vase of lilac to enjoy and the smell is divine.
In a minute we are off to catch a train to Rouen. Why you ask when we have our car? Well it seems our elderly diesel lady is too polluting for Rouen’s streets. Of course I don’t need much of a reason to catch a train. It will be our last day in this region before our return home.
We have been enjoying glorious Seine views along with lots of castle and Abbey visits. On our journey to our gîte we crossed the Seine on a little free ferry boat to visit the abbey at Jumièges. A perfect place to wander and wonder about past lives. Of course we made it to the wonderful gardens at Giverny as well as the Château-Gaillard on it’s hill top perch. I’ll be back soon with more photos when WiFi is back up to speed and I won’t feel like a tortoise having to wait for the wheels to crank into motion.
Meanwhile it’s been pottering in little country lanes, once with a stray dog who took it upon himself to show us his village. Poor thing was quite elderly and had a curious walk, as if arthritis was causing him problems. I felt quite guilty when we returned to our gîte and had to leave him outside.
Misty views on the first of May, a day when everything was closed and the men in their Jaune jackets were out in force. Dandelion seed heads everywhere to be seen.
So for now I’ll hopefully leave you with a handful of photos and the promise of a swift return with more. Hoping all is well in your corner.
